Pattern Love

All of the sudden I feel like I am crazy in love with so many different patterns. So when I came across this sofa from West Elm, I almost squealed out loud! Isn't it fantastic!? I wish I had somewhere for it and I would snap it up in a minute! I love everything about it, from the pattern on the upholstery to it's gorgeous legs.

I hadn't been poking around at West Elm for a while I had to see what else they had going on.
And that's when I came across this ottoman. Another fabulous piece....
and the rug....
and those mirrors...
and the owl lamp, side tables and rosette pillow!
ugh, so much goodness! What's a girl to do, but go on image overload.

I have totally been into all of the shimmery things that are out in stores lately.
I would love to have these shams. They would go great with my headboard,
and would throw in bit of extra depth to my bedding. And they have that
pretty sheen I'm so crazy about right now.

Another shimmery pillow? Yes, please!
How many of you are loving all of these faux wallpapered walls? Where
they are doing the stenciling instead of wallpaper. I have been swooning over it too.
So this past weekend I did a wall in my living room, behind my TV area. I am
LOVING it! Can't believe I even debated it, really. I used a high gloss for the stenciled
area on top of a flat paint and it gives the nicest glow. I'll be sharing soon.

Speaking of shiny things, dare I say Christmas is really right around the corner.
I love decorating for Christmas and West Elm has their Holiday preview going on,
so I couldn't resist taking a peek. I just may have to have me some new stockings
this year.

Hugs everyone! Have a wonderful Thursday! It's almost the weekend!
Woot Woot!

Spelling Bee

My girl. It's funny how different boys and girls are. Blair is so excited to do school work every day. She sits and traces letters, making them perfectly. Staying on the lines and then practicing them herself. Without me even having to ask her to. The boys, while they don't dislike school, they definitely don't do any more than I ask them to.

I was so proud of Blair, we had ran some errands and I had the kids all with me. So I put on one of those Leap Frog videos for the kids to watch in the car. Well one of the main characters is Tad. When we got home Blair got out her paper and crayons and went to town drawing on the coffee table. Then wanted me to come have a look.

I was so surprised and proud. She had sat and sounded out the words, Tad and cat. All by herself! I was shocked, not to doubt her smartness. LOL! But wow, who knew, right? So of course I said, let me take your picture! Great job and a high five! Hope she always has this want to learn. It is so much fun to watch.

Have any of you noticed that with your kids? How different girls and boys are about things like this.
Do you think it has anything to do with birth order?

Q&A

The lovely Tatiana has tagged me with some questions,
a kind of get to know you better Q&A.
So fun!

1. If you could eat anywhere in the world, where and what would it be?
My favorite place in the whole world is La Hacienda The Ranch!
A mexican food restaurant in Dallas, Texas.
We eat there ever time we go to Dallas. Just talking
about it makes me hungry. =)

2. What is your favorite childhood memory?
Visits from my Grandma. My grandma lived 5 hours away and she and my grandpa would visit  pretty often. When she wasn't here we were pen pals. And we still write back and forth to this day.

3. What is your idea of an ideal date?
I'm pretty easy to please and love to eat outdoors. And after visiting Oasis this summer,
I would love to sit out looking over Lake Travis having dinner with my honey!
{Just look at that view.}

4. Who has been your biggest inspiration?
My husband, without a doubt. He has always been there for me. Always building me up , he is my biggest fan. Watching him work hard to better himself, always with a positive attitude. Definitely someone to model.

5. What would you say is your biggest accomplishment?
My babies!

6. Are you a diamonds or pearls kind of girl?
I always have been a diamonds kind of girl, but have some pearl earrings I love!

7.Would you rather read the book or watch the movie?
I have trouble sitting still long enough to watch a movie. I'm kind of ADD. I do like to read though.

8. If you had enough money, what store would we find in your walk in closet?
Probably Ann Taylor Loft or J.Crew.

I would love to hear your answers to some of these questions.

Vanity Table

"Vanity Table"
You may remember back over the summer when I was looking for a vanity table to double as my bed side table. I hunted around at flea markets and garage sales and came up empty handed. So I was tickled to death when my trip to the salvation army yielded this find. Look at those legs. =)
It is now at home beside my bed. Isn't it great how one small change can really change the feel of a room. It just feels more complete and cozy.
Now all I need is a stool. This one we have had for a while. Can you tell? I had actually forgotten
about it. I think I may try to give it a new coat of paint and upholster the top. It could work.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Cabinet Reveal

The Story:
I have had this lovely cabinet for
about 7 years. It's a great piece but I
was just ready for a change. I am sure there
are a few people out there who are thinking
"Why did you want to mess with this?", but it was
time.

So first I took off the lattice. Do you see Hello Kitty
up there, she is patiently waiting to have her head sewn back on.
LOL

I sanded it down and then used a deglosser (or liquid sander)
to remove any other finish off.
This is very important. If not your paint will slide right off.
Then primer, and the first coat of paint.
I used Valspar Polar Star.
But after the first coat it was too white. I wanted white, but
I was going for a darker gray white.
So I went back with the next darker shade,
Valspar Gravity. Perfect!

Next I used a stencil I downloaded from here to trace on my pattern.
And with a steady hand I used Valspar Metropolis to trace
my stencil pattern. Let me tell you as I was painting
the lines I had traced, I thought, "This is looking terrible".
Then I stood back to take a look...

And I was in love! So very glad I went ahead and painted
this piece of furniture.

I decorated the top with special things. The large light house painting my dad's aunt
made for me when I got married. The family photo is one of my very favorites!
And here is my latest ScrapBox.

Shoes my grandma saved from when I was a baby and a photo of her holding me.
I cherish this photo and am so excited to have a way to display it uniquely.

What do you think?

Technical Difficulties

I am having some trouble with blogger this morning.
Hopefully I can get it fixed today so
I can share my cabinet makeover.

Flowers and Baking

I am finishing up the furniture today and hope to have photos for you tomorrow.
The sun is shining and I going to do some baking today.
And after seeing this photo I think I need some of these in my kitchen.
Hope you are all having a lovely day!
Hugs!

Hodge Podge

Are you having a good week so far? My kids have coughs, I hate that.
We started school this year a couple of weeks early with
the intention of taking the last part of this week off.
So, I am getting together our plans, and so far I know for sure
we are going to go to the movies to see that new Alpha and Omega
movie. It looks pretty cute. Maybe a zoo visit and a picnic.
I'm a no plans are the best plans kind of girl.

Well this past Saturday was Rhett's first "flag" football game. We were
all excited! He had on his jersey for the first time and I think
probably had no idea what to really expect.
That's him in the grey shorts below.

  Getting stretched out.
We brought our personal cheerleader. ;)
With their flags on the game started. And after our team was shoved from behind,
pulled down by their jersey's and getting told "I'm gonna get you", I realized
the other team wasn't told this was "flag" football.
That had to be it, right? They are 5 year olds.
I didn't remember the 2 teams we sat and watched before our
game started acting like this. hmmm
It was an interesting start to football. You know I wouldn't have thought
a whole lot about him being tackled and talked a little smack to, if
he was older, and he had on pads. Any hoo, what an introduction.
Can I tell you it took me a while to cool down
after that, and it wasn't because it was a hot day.
;)

Well in other news I thought I would share the before shots of my furniture that is
in the midst of made-over. Both pieces were in such good shape I almost felt bad for painting them...
almost.

This piece I found at the salvation army (71st & Garnett, for you locals).

And this is a computer armoire that I have had about 7 years. Really it was in pretty
great shape except a few scuffs here and there. But I was ready for
a different look for the piece. I have had so much dark furniture for so
long and am ready to change it up a bit.

I hope to post the finished products later this week.

Have a wonderful day!

Anthropologie

Anthropologie opens it's Tulsa store this Friday in Utica Square!
We are super excited. So in honor of the grand opening
I have picked a few of my favorite things. And since
I have been working on my new vanity table and
the old cabinet, it was only right to looks at new pulls.
Aren't these lovely!?

This apron reminds me of my NC friend.
She's a great cook and looks fab while doing it.
 Measuring cups!
So cute!
I love these, they are salt & pepper shakers.
Aren't they sweet?
I really can't seem to get enough of this color.
Last season, my favorite pair of shoes were
this same color.
Swooning over this coat.

Hope you guys are having a fabulous Monday!
I am almost finished with my furniture pieces and
hope to show them to you later this week. Also I will
give you an update on how our flag football game went.
It was an experience. ;)

I am giving this weeks I Heart Faces challenge a go.
It's entitled "Smirk", which seems easy to get out of this child.

Vanity... Table

I have been in love with the thought of a vanity as my bedside table for a while now, and been keeping my eye out for the perfect piece. I have been hitting the thrift stores lately looking more for a new console for the television when I found the perfect vanity piece! Yay! Yesterday I prepped it for paint and hope to finish it up for a reveal by next week. Now I'll have to find a stool or chair to accompany my new find. I can't tell you how excited I am. Also on the furniture painting front, I have decided, after much deliberation on painting a piece of furniture I have had for some time. It's a larger piece and I'll be sure and share it with you when it's finished.

Here are a couple of the rooms that inspired my vanity (table, hehe) quest.

What are your weekend plans?
This weekend besides painting, is Rhett's
first football game! He is so excited and so am I.
 I can't wait.

Have a wonderful weekend!
