Bedroom Mood...

My master bedroom has always been a mishmash of things. So I thought I might start brainstorming on a few things I might like to have come make a permanent stay in this room. Starting with a soothing grayish wall color. Possibly a blue-grey headboard. I do have a charcoal grey love seat that will be staying. Besides that, it will be a total overhaul. What are your thoughts?

SSSHHH It's A Secret...

Remember this lil sitting area in the master bedroom?

I thought I might let you in on a small space secret going on in our house. Since we purchased this 3 bedroom home not expecting to have twins we had to get a little creative as to how we would sleep everyone. And using one of the bedrooms as a home office for my husbands biz, that leaves us with two bedrooms. So when thinking of where we would put Rhett, the only logical place was in our bedroom. But I did not want a toddler bed stuffed in the corner of our bedroom.  I am anal when it comes to things being just so. So when I started looking for other options  for his bed I came across this sleeper loveseat. So at night we fold this out and it's his bed, in day time it's folded up and the room looks put together. With no one being the wiser.

Small space big style! That's what I'm after!

A Master Bedroom Makeover...

Well sis, here some of my thoughts on your master bedroom makeover, with the colors we talked about. Green comforter, with chocolate accents and using art similar to what you already have. Hope this helps! sisters makeover

Paint Therapy...

This past weekend was one filled with paint therapy. Why? Because what sounds like torture to some is therapy for me. While the kids went up to my in laws and spent the night, I got busy painting two bedrooms. The only two I have had left. The two that can't be done while everyone sleeps. The master bedroom and the kids bedroom. Several months ago I found some cute curtains I want to hang in the kids room, but I had to paint first. So I am just now getting to it. Also I am in the midst of freshening up the master. You have seen the bedding, and now the walls are painted. If the nasty weather will hold off this week, my plan for upholstering my own headboard will be in full swing over the holiday break from work. It may take me a bit. I still have not decided on curtains, although I did get the lamps I have been swooning over. So what's left are: the curtains, headboard, end tables and I am almost there. It is amazing how paint can change a room though, isn't it? So clean and fresh. BTW, I did go "Green" with the paint. The brand I used was FreshAir. Sold at Home Depot. There was almost no odor. It was great! Well that's it for now.

Finally Master Bedroom....

After getting a new comforter by accident, and just all together ready for a bedroom spruce up the finishing results are in. I upholstered my own headboard back in December using some great online tutorials and a velvet curtain for the fabric. I love how it turned out. I feel like I am in a swanky place that isn't mine. I had planned on having matching end tables on either side of the bed, but had a bit of a tweek in my plan. Now each side has it's own personality and I am really happy with it. Having the steel blue curtains really gives the room a serene environment. The mirrors, lamps and tulip style table I picked up at Target. (my fav store) With three kids always in toe there aren't to many other places I venture out to on a regular basis. And why when Target is so great.

The story on this side table: I ordered them from Ikea and when I received them and got them put together they were way to low. I knew that they would be on the shorter side but thought it might still work. Not even close. So my fix was to attach the two boxes together. Because I loved the look of the tables so much I hated to send them back. Once I got the two boxes attached together it was perfect. Bonus for me I get more storage. Below is what it looks like with the two tables attached together and below that is the  original version.

This is the hubs side of the bed. I love this table and was really excited when I realized I could incorporate  it into our room . Plus he doesn't need the storage space on his side like I do for all of my stuff!

Last but not least is our lil sitting area. I am still working on that frame above. I am going to paint the frame black. Right now I have some paintable wall paper unpainted in the frame. But am thinking I will paint it my accent color of steel blue. Your thoughts?

Here is a closer shot of the framed piece.

Coming Out Of The Closet...

Living in a 1950's home definitely leaves some to be desired in the way of closet space. Right now I have my clothes in our master bedroom and my husband in his office. Works our pretty well that way. Needing a little closet space, I thought I would pass on these swoon worthy pics. Kind of beckons the feeling of busting out a wall to make room for this kind of "luxury". Courtesy of Nicole Sassaman.com

What I've Been Up To...

Well it's about time that I finished above the "sitting area" in our master bedroom. The anniversary pics we had taken mixed with a few homemade art pieces, one that reads "you and I". Finishing this corner just puts that last little touch on that area.
Feeling like my entry way was missing something I went treasure hunting, in my own house. When Josh and I got married my great aunt painted us this light house picture. I had it up until a couple of months ago, when I took it down with plans to move it somewhere else but, had been storing it. I got it back out and set it up on the entry table along with a few other photos and a frame I had recently picked up. The frame on the painted art and the new frame were both gold. I had actually purchased the smaller gold frame with plans to paint it, but when I set it up with the other gold frame it seemed to make the whole set up make sense. So here is how she stands now. I know the one side is still a little scarce, but I'm working on it.

Closet Envy...

A few posts ago I shared a few pictures of some fabulous closets. Well that got me really thinking that there had to be a solution for my sad little 1950's closet. As I lay in bed one night I got the bright idea to measure the depth of the closet and then from the door opening to the side wall. Out came the measuring tape, there indeed was enough space from the door opening to the side wall to run the clothes bar. It would actually give me more hanging space! So when you open the closet instead of seeing a single bar of clothes, I hung the bars on either side of the door opening creating a walk in closet! One side has short hanging and the other side is long hanging. I am going for the dressing room feel, but because we do have plans to sell our home in the future I don't want to be to over the top.

So to finish off the closet with a bit of chic boutique feel I have purchased some paintable wall paper with a subtle print, that will line the back wall of the closet. I am then going to paint the wall paper a nice subtle hue that will coordinate with the master bedroom. Simply moving the bars over have made such an improvement. Not so claustrophobic! So pictures will be coming soon. I still have wallpapering and painting to finish in there. One of those thing you can't really do with the kiddos hanging around. Great little helpers, but I will have to go this one alone!

Christmas To Do List...

I am hoping to start upholstering a head board for our master bedroom over the couple of extra days off.  I have sold my old end tables. The sad part of that story is that I have not picked up my new ones. Mostly because the ones I really want are in Texas at Ikea! Darn the luck! I am so trying to talk the hubby into a one day trip down there. So far he isn't buying it. Although once he is without an end table he may think twice. Still looking for mirrors. I know what I want just haven't found them.

So getting ever so close to a wrap up on this room. For now, you know things are always a changing around here. I seem to keep it the same for a few years and them am ready for a new paint color and some freshening up.

Inspiration...

A few new really lovely pics I found about randomly. I have had some master bedroom color schemes swimming in my head, just haven't gotten it all worked out yet. I would love to give that room a bit of a tweak, or a whole makeover wouldn't be bad either. Until then here is some eye candy.

View In a Room...

Thank you Emily for reminding me of Decor Padder Suzie's sitting area in her master bedroom using the Ikea chairs I have so been coveting. I love what Suzie has done with the gallery above and adding in the Etsy pillows. HMMMM... Maybe a birthday present for myself. I think so!

Pretty Perch...

I am sure you all have seen this photo floating around the net. I sure love this little nook. And I can't seem to get it out of my head. The more I look at it the more I want to create a space like it in our master bedroom. So I am now on the hunt for the perfect piece. I already have a mirror. If I can just fine a small desk or table and a cute stool I'm in business. Our neighborhood is having a neighborhood wide garage sale this Saturday! Now you know what I'll be doing this weekend.
{via good bones great pieces}

Have a fun weekend!
