Memory Monday...

Over the weekend my dad was gracious enough to take all 3 of my children and keep them over night. So on Sunday we made our way out to pick them up. My dad lives on 100 acres, it is so peaceful. When we arrived the kids were all playing outside and having a blast. Needless to say I had, had to much tea and had to make a bathroom run. As soon as I opened the door I heard it. The sound of blues playing loudly over the surround sound. My eyes almost welled up. (cause I'm a sap like that) Reminded me of growing up. In our house there was always music playing. Dad has these huge speakers! I think that is probably why I am such a music lover today. And I too, always have music playing. Although I think I really need surround sound! To have the whole place alive with music is just... wonderful!
{Pardon the quality of this photo}
Do you have any fond memories of childhood? Ones that you think have carried through to where you are now? I would love to hear about them. Leave your story in the comment section or better yet, post about them and link it back hear so we can all come and read.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are off to a great start of the week!
Happy Monday!

Snuggle Up...

My favorite time of day is first thing in the morning. The boys wake up and come straight into our room and crawl into bed with me. (Blair is a busy body and goes straight to her dishes) Such good snugglers. Memories I will treasure forever.
I hope you all have a sunny relaxing weekend.

A Garden Hopeful...

{via Martha Stewart}
  I have for some time wanted to have a garden. We have said we were going to sell our home at some point so I hesitated to put one in. My dad used to put one in every year when I was growing up. At the time I thought it was such work, but funny how I have come full circle on my feeling about having one. The kids are super excited about the thought of growing their own vegetables and being involved in the planting and picking. Another thing I love about it is involving them in good eating habits. I think even if you stray from your good habits you always come back to that foundation.
So I decided we would try a very small container garden. And if the opportunity to move presented itself then I could pick up my garden and take it with me. I am however getting my plants in later than I wanted, but better late than never.
The kids and I went out and purchased 4 tomato plants today, with plans of planting them in our containers as soon as we got home. When I got a knock on the door of a neighbor saying that next door they had discovered a large honey making bee hive. They had a professional come over and spray it to remove it and not to let the kids outside. So I have plants, but they will have to wait another day before they go in the pot. Darn!
Do you have any container garden advice you can give? I am hoping to expand up on our lil garden next year. Maybe even be able to do a raised bed garden. I had a client telling me about a method called the “lasagna garden”. Which is a layering of soil method. So I am going to do some checking into that.
Hope you are all having a lovely day. =)

Stuffed Peppers...

I have always wanted to make stuffed peppers and am not sure why I hadn't already done so. So when I came across this recipe I knew it was time.
SO GOOD!
And so easy, you have got to try it.

{Here is how mind turned out}

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup uncooked Arborio rice
  • 2 green bell peppers, halved and seeded
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil. Stir in the rice. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat, and set aside.
  3. Place the peppers cut-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Roast 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until tender and skin starts to brown.
  4. While the peppers are roasting, heat oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the onions, basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in oil for 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the tomato, and cook for 5 minutes. Spoon in the cooked rice, and stir until heated through. Remove from heat, mix in the feta cheese, and spoon the mixture into the pepper halves.
  5. Return to the oven for 5 minutes. Serve immediately.

Office Accents

I have been trying to tidy up Josh's office lately. I have painted the wall and hung new curtains. We even tried to rearrange a bit, to make if flow a bit better.

It was time to do something with the walls. The poor guy has papers and business cards everywhere. So I thought maybe a corkboard would help him to get organized. Also it would fill in the blank walls.

I started out with a large frame (24x36) and spray painted it.
Sorry no pic for that step.
Next I purchased some rolls of cork.
I rolled it out and cut it to fit slightly inside the backing of the frame.

I used two layers of cork.
 The stuff was kind of thin so I thought I better double up.
Next I used some spray adhesive and attached the two layers of cork and then the cork to the backing.
I put some magazines on one end while I worked my way to the other so it didn't roll back up on me.
Place cork in frame.
To add some interest I decided to add a ribbon around the edge. Since it was going in the "man" office I wanted a more masculine ribbon and thought this one did the trick.
So I measured out each side and cut them off, cutting the corners at an angle to make them crisp.
I used fabric glue and attached the ribbon to the cork.
And here is the finished product in it's final resting place, the office.
It really goes well with the curtains.
Here is a little peek of some the the other art that will be taking up an adjacent wall.
 A vintage Porsch.
Swoon!
There are several that I see frequently around town and a Porsche club that meets at an cafe near us every Saturday. We both have this lovely car on our "some day" list, so it is only fitting to have a little gallery of them hanging in the office.
Here is the photo I took of one of the Porsch clubbers!
Ugh, all I need is a scarf and sunglasses!
Talk about the perfect Sunday drive car. =)

DIY Aspirations...

I am wanting to create some headboards for the twins' room. I am really not wanting to spend any extra money on bedding so I am trying to put together a look using our existing color scheme.
Here are a few looks that are inspiring me.
Really, I like the wall treatment better than anything in this photo!
But the headboards are cute too.
 How can you not be inspiring by the Little Green Notebook and this beautiful room she created?
I especially love this room because we have a very similar set up in our room. There is a large window and we have two beds to design around. I don't however have as much wall space on either side of the window.

Wish me luck!

Soaring Plane and Sore Back...

Yes, it was on of those weekends. I spent most of the day saturday bent over putting this together.
It's a teeter totter airplane.
Man is my back sore! But all worth it because they were tickled pink!
And speaking of pink we had a big container of pink lemonade to quench our thirst.
YUM!

In other weekend happenings do you remember this table?
Well, when I rearranged the living room I needed a coffee table. That's where this table comes in.
I really didn't have any other place for the entry table and love it's shape so I thought, heck I'll just cut it down to coffee table height.
Repurpose right?

 I am thrilled about it's new height! I have been staring at it for weeks now, just to make sure it was  what I really wanted to do.
Now the burning question is, do I paint it white?

What do you think?

Happy...

I am in a run off into the sunset kind of mood. Do you think that means I am ready for a vacation?
I am going to put a weekend getaway on the books soon.

A girl needs traveling music doesn't she? I recently came across these fine lads and am officially obsessed!
Mumford and Sons!
Give it a listen and let me know what you think.

{You will need to pause the music to the left}
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend with lots of sun and fun!
See you next week!

A Project or Two...

Today I am sharing my latest ScrapBox. This one is definitely inspired by Darci Miller's version.
I like having it hand written, rather than typed. It makes it more personal to me. I am working on another box with a pair of shoes my Grandmother had kept since I was a baby. She gave them to me a couple of years ago and I have had them saved away, not sure what to do with them until I came across the ScrapBoxing a couple of months ago.

Finally I found some white frames for the kids silhouettes and hung them in their room over the art cable.
I tried adding their names and it just wasn't looking right. So I left them as is and I like the simplicity of it.

Hope you all are having a lovely day.

Weekend Happenings...

This Easter I had an entourage...

Only kidding,
but they were hanging around. We did a little fishing. And while putting this post together I realized that this is just about the only photo I got of Rhett, because I don't think he was still the whole time we were fishing. He was to busy running back and forth checking everyones line. LOL!

{Rhett and his Papa, my dad}
{Jude and Granny}

I hope you all had a blessed Easter. I realize now that it's time for us to get out the sunscreen. Rhett's little nose is all red today.

Inspiration for Blair...

I look forward to giving this sweet girl her own space some day soon. Right now she is bunking up with her brother. She doesn't mind, she doesn't know any different. She loves pink and purple, what a shock, right? She is such a perfect mix, she loves all things girly, but can totally hold her own with her brothers. Lately when she wakes up in the morning she goes straight to her biggest brother and gets a morning hug. Gotta love that.

On to the room inspiration for baby girl...

{sorry forgot again!}

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your Easter. We are planning to attend Easter service this evening at Church. Followed up Sunday by a visit with some relatives.
