DIY Art Cable...

I received the latest PB Kids catalog and was instantly drawn to the art hanging on the wall and how it was hung.

So cute, huh? But... I thought for what it cost I figured I could do my own version for much cheaper.
So...
I started out with these wood blocks that I painted them white,
I found this great paper and cut it down to 3x3 squares. Then mod podged
it to to the blocks.

Next step was to attach these small hooks to the center of the blocks...
the hanging brackets to the back and then attached the wire to the hooks.
Here is the finished product. I hope to add some of my scrapboxes above soon too.
I was laughing looking at this photo Rhett drew, because he added our ages. (before my bday)
So sweet!

I'm doing the same thing in our school room! Above the table. Love yours! I'll have to post pics of ours when the school room is done.
I was gonna paint, but I think I'll do the paper thing too ~ great idea!

Oh my gosh, that is such a great idea! LOVE the paper you used for the wood blocks, too :)

That turned out really well! Doncha just love PB inspiration? If it's within reach of little hands, you might want to find out about the wire ending bits they sell at the hardware store (sorry, I'm blanking on the name) which would cover the sharp ends completely. I love that you used scrapbooking paper--that's such a smart idea!

Cute! We have the same thing in our hallway, but I never thought to use the blocks to anchor it! Ours is just screwed in the wall!

I found your blog by typing in "DIY art cable." So glad I did! I just saw this in the PBK catalog too and thought it was cute, but ridiculously overpriced... like most things in the PBK catalog.

I think this will be my Sunday project. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this! I was just looking at the very same thing in that catalog (guess they have been selling it a while as I see you did this last year) and trying to figure out if I could do it on the cheap ... couldn't quite imagine all the steps, and you've laid them all out so perfectly ... lovely! I have 3 munchkins and can't wait to make each of them one.

Cheers,
Stephanie
